♣from scratch 就是指

從頭開始的意思，也就是從無到有from nothing 或是from beginning的意思，沒有去使用現成存在的東西。

I built this treehouse from scratch.

我從無到有去完成了這個樹屋。

第二個要說明的是，也是很常用:

♣from soup to nuts

這個跟剛剛的from scratch有點不太一樣是，這裡的Soup to nuts是從開始到結束的意思，有包含到結束的那個意涵。如同吃西餐一樣，剛開始的開胃湯到最後的甜點堅果,等同於from the  beginning to the end。舉例來說

Let's go over the plan, from soup to nuts.
我們來看一下計畫，從頭到尾。
